Evolution Aqua 5 Way Switch Box

Evolutoin Aqua Switch Box

Evolutoin Aqua Switch Box

Looks like 2012 calls for more innovative products from Evolution Aqua.  Early this 2012 year a new 5 way switch box is due to be released in Europe.  No word on whether this clever device will see USA soil however check back with the latest news.  Just remember that you heard and saw it here first on Koi Kichi to Koi FANATIC blog!  Evolution Aqua’s range of Matsuko external switch boxes are ideal for controlling all types of electrical garden products. They allow a high level of flexibility and ease when it comes to controlling more than one appliance. For instance, you can easily have up to 5 appliances plugged in and controlled by the switchbox at any one time.

• Ideal for water gardening appliances like pond filters, airpumps,
UV clarifiers, and water features.

• Switch boxes can be programmed to turn certain appliances on or off at certain
times of the day. (Programmable models only).
• All models comply with UK legal and electrical safety standards.
• Weatherproof for outdoor use to at least IP56, or IP66 when installed in accordance with our instructions

• PUMPGUARD constantly monitors the optimum performance of your   pump. If your pump operates outside of these parameters then PUMPGUARD will perform a series of checks to help prevent any damage to your pump.

• PLUS – Top of the range switchbox with PUMPGUARD also informs you of
the power consumption going through the box.

PumpGuard™ is a patent-pending, smart technology that helps to avoid possible disasters  recurring when your pump blocks or overloads.  Line 1 of every Evolution Aqua Matsuko switch box with PumpGuard™ is set to automatically “learn” how the first pump that is connected to it behaves in normal use.  Once the learning process is over (approximately after the first 20 min of running) PumpGuard™ goes into monitoring mode. It’s just looking out for your pump showing signs of overloading or cutting out, all day every day.
PumpGuard™ also knows how long you’ve programmed your pump to run every day. So, if the pump should start to overload, or cut out, PumpGuard™ works on a series of recovery – “keep it going” – plans. PumpGuard™’s program tries to keep the pump running but minimising the overload, or avoiding any cutting out, while still running as far as possible for the full programmed time during the day! As soon as an overload situation has occurred PumpGuard™ sounds a warning alarm (the signal for a warning alarm
is a steady beeping sound plus a red LED on line No.1) the display shows “PumpGuard™ active”. A pump that constantly keeps restarting can easily burn itself out. PumpGuard™ detects this situation and will, if the cutting out cannot be stopped by running on a lower intensity program, disconnects the power. PumpGuard™ saves your pump from damaging itself. In this situation PumpGuard™ sounds a stop alarm (the signal for a stop alarm is a faster beeping sound plus a red LED on Line No. 1) and the display shows “Pump fail”.
When you want to connect a new pump to your switchbox, you just reset PumpGuard™ on the control panel and the learning process will start again.

StopKHV by Novartis

Have you seen the above image on the web lately?  Rumors of a long awaited KHV vaccine to hit the US market true?  The clock continues to tick while many koi hobbyist, dealers and koi breeders await the news.   It has been said that the two largest issues with developing a vaccine is technicality and regulatory.  As a recap in history many attempts have been made in producing a koi vaccine for KHV.  Take for example Israeli koi which marketed one of the first if not first vaccinated koi for sale against KHV.  We all know what happened after.  Let’s not forget the main reason for government regulating vaccines: Safety and Effectiveness

Vaccines can come in the following forms:

  • A killed virus vaccine
  • A modified live virus vaccine
  • And a DNA ( gene) vaccine

What lies ahead may be unfamiliar waters for many in the koi industry however strides have been made to overcome this deadly virus we call KHV.  So while the clock ticks and if this becomes a reality how many hobbyists would consider vaccinating their koi fish collection?  Would you only purchase vaccinated koi?  Would you only purchase koi fish from closed domestic koi farms in which KHV testing has been carried out for the last 7 years?  Drop your comments below and we may re post an open discussion on our Facebook Fan Page!  Happy Koi Keeping!

Pure Pond Bomb by Evolution Aqua

PURE Pond Bomb by Evolution Aqua

The latest from Evolution Aqua is PURE Pond BOMB!!

Evolution Aqua Pond Bomb helps to achieve crystal clear, healthy water.  With amazing clarity, it offers bacterial treatment for all garden ponds.  Pond Bomb is an intensive, fast acting pond treatment.
Pure Pond Bomb is ideal for use in koi ponds, ornamental ponds, self contained water features or ponds which do not have conventional filtration, to achieve crystal clear, healthy water.
Inside the Pond Bomb there is a unique combination of friendly bacteria and enzymes which get to work as soon as the ball hits the water to clean up organic waste and break down the ammonia and nitrite to leave your pond crystal clear and healthy.
The Pond Bomb can simply be dropped into the water or can be used when starting up a new filter as the bacteria will help remove the harmful bacteria and nitrite, allowing the filter media to mature. The bomb just needs to be dropped into the biological stage of the filter.

Japan Buying Trip Part III

Japan Blog 3

High Class Tancho Showa

Another koi hunting day begins in the next 15 hours.  Fellow hobbiest from Sacramento CA join me for a promising adventurous packed day.  Breeders will include Dainichi, Aoki, Iwashita, Hiroi, Suda, Tanako, Kase, Oya, Igarashi, Isa just to name a few.  When I say packed day I mean packed!  The mountains are filled with koi waiting for new homes.

Soaking Wet!!

The last three days have been spent searching breeders stock for a few special pieces and that I’ve found.  From high class gosanke to the unusual black tancho!  Not only were my days filled with stunning koi but also a few laughs along the way.  In searching for a high class tancho showa I witnessed not one…BUT two employees take plunges into holding ponds!  What to do when you are holding an Iphone 4 and Nikon camera filled with weeks of pictures and someone just behind you begins to take a pond fall?  Well in my case he looked at me as he fell back and said “ Let me go let me go!! ( In Japanese of course)”  and that I did…….. =-0  No injuries to report….only a crowd of onlookers and then seconds later a paparazzi of camera flashes.  For once it wasn’t Paris Hilton or Britney Spears that took the spot light but a very wet Isa employee!!  I’m sure I’ll be seeing my pictures on the internet all around Italy and Europe in days to come.

After an interesting filled morning a lunch stop was made at a famous Nagaoka ramen restaurant known for BBQ pork ramen and eel.  Most ramen restaurants use a vending machine at entrance to place your food order however this one had a different twist.  The cook greets you from the kitchen with a loud “Welcome…what will it be” and the response…..well just shout the number.  I describe it as a shout as the only thing you hear is the drowning sound of a couple dozen eaters ‘slurping’ soup down.  I must say it was one of the if not “THE” tastiest ramen places i’ve tried.  I marked this place on my GPS for future lunching!

On another note I’ve been busy catching up on emails and phone calls.  For those that have sent koi request forms via koienterprise.com koi shopper module I’ve gotten back to most of you.  A few koi fish are left to find however I am confident in tomorrows search!  Stay tuned for Koi Enterprise facebook fan page updates throughout the next few days.  I can’t wait to get this shipment back to our shop!  Happy Koi Keeping and Hunting!

Japan Buying Trip 2011 Part II

Can you guess what they are doing?

We have reached the halfway point of our 2011 Japan Koi Buying Trip!  Currently in the mountains and thought I would archive these few blogs while I’m away.  I didn’t want to leave you high and dry with koi withdrawals =-)  What a trip thus far!!  I’m proud to say we have some of the best koi fish coming into the USA.  We’ve raised the bar once again and thanks to our connections in Japan fish quality is outstanding.  Selections include goshiki, pearl gin rin ochiba, kohaku, sanke, showa, yamabuki ogon, as well as some high class specials we picked up along the way.  For all you butterfly koi lovers we have a few gosanke long fin as well.

Aside from the koi kichi world Japan has much to offer.  My morning runs have been a new avenue for meeting new friends.  Wonderful and not so sure food still surprise me to this day after all my visits.  It is also a time to reconnect with koi kichi from around the world whom I interact with via Facebook and other social media.  It’s always nice to put a face to a screen name.

A personal note:

Apart from keeping busy searching for koi fish and escorting fellow koi hobbiest around  to breeders facilities, I do find time to escape the busy days and just sit mountain side.  Fresh crisp air with stunning views revitalizes the soul and gives me a time out to reflect on my achievements and inspires me to accomplish future goals.  I started my journey in koi at the age of 13.  Since then I grew to love the hobby but most importantly embrace Japanese culture and people.  Through koi I’ve gained more then friends here in Japan…..I gained a second family.  As I’ve stated before…..if you dream about visiting Japan….don’t wait.  Your life will forever be enriched once you set foot on this soil.  Thank you for your continued support and let the koi searching continue!

Japan 2011 Buying Trip Blog

Japan Buying Trip 2011Here is my first blog from this years 2011 Japan Koi Buying Trip.  Literally it’s on the fly as I type and post via wifi near the Nagaoka train station.  Weather here could not get better with slight rain during the Nogyosai Breeders Koi Show however sunny sky follow.  The mountains are strangely quiet this year with hardly any major dealer activity.  A few Europeans here and there and a never low number of USA dealers make koi selection vast but prices hover the same.  The down side is that doesn’t affect the currency rate nor economy worldwide =-(  I’ve been asked the question many times if the economy has affected the koi industry.  My reply is that the economy effects all of us in some way or form.  Nevertheless koi kichi will be KOI KICHI!

I’ve been keeping up with many of you who have emailed me and the question comes up “ When is the best time for buying koi in the fall”?  I’ve read many post about so and so is the first in Japan selecting koi.  The truth is that koi are a farmed crop if you will.  Will good years and bad years.  Koi are harvested in the fall throughout the months of October, November and even December.  Coordinating your visit times with breeders harvest is a key and will yield great results.  Hence my visit this year in Japan will be 12 days.  Being the first or last dealer in Japan really doesn’t mean much when breeders are harvesting all throughout the week.

Lunch time is approaching and Romen is always a fav in my book =-)  I hope that many of you have enjoyed thus far the virtual koi buying experience with me via Facebook. Technology is truly amazing!  I was able to live stream video from the koi show straight to our website koienterprise.com ;-)   I really enjoy all your comments and feed back via our Koi Enterprise Facebook Fan Page.  Please keep them coming as it makes great conversation and in fact a great learning tool.

A visit to Japan is truely a life time experience!  I wish that all koi hobbyist really consider making this life changing journey as it opens new doors into koi and it’s culture.  This year I have the privilege to take two koi kichi from Sacramento CA to koi mecca.  For  future buying trips please feel free to contact me.  I promise it will be a most memorable first koi culture journey and probably not your last.  Happy Koi Keeping!
